Templates Overview

How you can build and configure your templates to align with your website's look and feel.

5 minute read

When you first set up with The Cookie Jar, two default templates will be automatically added to your organisation. These templates are designed to get you started quickly or to provide a basic template if you have no developer resources to create one. However, we understand that most businesses will want to customise their templates further to better align with their brand’s look and feel.

There are two types of templates: banner and modal. A banner template should generally be a smaller snippet on the page that informs the user of how your business uses cookies. Meanwhile, a modal should be a larger interactive popup that gives the user the ability to select what they consent to.

A powerful feature of The Cookie Jar is that whilst there are some recommended guidelines, there are no restrictions to how much you can customise the look and feel of your template. You can build an HTML snippet exactly as you want it to look and save it under the templates tab.

The guidelines are just there to ensure that the templates will set the consent settings as expected. The next page will demonstrate how to build a template and review these guidelines.
