Frequently Asked Questions

Cookie consent is the process of respecting your websites visitors right to both understand and manage how you track them across your website using cookies. The Cookie Jar does this by allowing you to present website visitors with a prompt detailing this information the first time that they visit your website. You can modify this prompt based on the visitor’s location to align with local privacy laws.

You should tell your website visitors about every cookie you use on your website. However, to make it easy for them we generally recommend breaking them down into categories, e.g functional ones that need to be there for your website to work, and advertising ones that you use to personalise communications to them. That way they can easily choose what ones that they consent to.

Yes, users should be able to withdraw / change their cookie consent. We make this easy with our embedded cookie declaration that website visitors can interact with. It is generally recommended that you have this sitting on your privacy policy page. Our developer documentation details how you can do this.

Yes absolutely! Using the UI, you can configure it to reuse the same domain and template configuration across multiple subdomains as well as the optional sharing of the consent state across your ecosystem.

Whilst Google has decided to keep 3rd party cookies, cookie deprecation is still inevitable and will mean that 3rd party tracking tags will not work on your website as well as they have in the past. Therefore, many marketing and advertising vendors now recommend using server-side tracking as a way around this. If you are using server-side tracking with these platforms, then the user must have consented for you to do so. Not to worry, The Cookie Consent Jar is designed to work in a world without 3rd party cookies.

We believe that simple is best. Todays website visitors are generally pretty clued up on cookies and their rights so you want to convey to them as clearly as possible the types of cookies you use and the benefits to them consenting.

The Cookie Consent Jar does not hold or save any sensitive information on your customers. It works by saving a website visitors consent preferences as a 1st party cookie in the browser. That way no important information is ever saved outside of the browser.

Yes! We don’t believe in rate limits. We have made this possible my removing the unnecessary features that other competitors use to dictate pricing, such as website scans etc.

The Cookie Jar allows you to completely customise how the banners look on your website. You can upload any number of HTML templates to the admin console, that can then be set as active on your website. If you need inspiration, we also have a community library that you can browse for ideas.

Our tool saves the website visitors cookie preferences to your website so that you can use that to determine what third-party services that you fire or not. We work with all modern tag management solutions such as Google Tag Manager, Segment, and Tealium. Our developer guide has more details on how to work with these solutions.
